allergen free baking

After royally messing up the cookies I made a work today (sort of, I’m pulling them from the display tomorrow and starting over) I decided to start making cookies that are not only vegan, but as allergen free as I can. I can’t make them wheat-free every time because of cost, but I’m going to omit soy. I have a mild soy allergy and I understand how difficult it can be to find products that don’t include irritants. That’s my new project for work.

I’m not a bad baker, I just seem to have bad luck with it here and there. I don’t enjoy it as much as cooking.

While out on Friday night, a room in the mill had a table set up where you could make your own crown. I went in with a friend and got down to business. It brought back memories of Kindergarten, 20 years ago. I jumped on the opportunity with enthusiasm. I live my life differently than before. I have less discretions, although some limitations remain. I’m not a dirty slut afterall.

lilacs and bluets

Beautiful summer-like day. I got out of work early (2PM) and I’ve been going in and out the door enjoying this weather.

These flowers are from my backyard. The Lilacs are just blooming and are a good month early. They are very fragrant and pretty, they don’t last long. The Bluets are a sweet little flower which come up in little tufts. They are very resilient. The blue is very faint. I also planted some seeds today – purple Alyssum. Gardening is another passion of mine and once the weather warms up I try to get out and do something, anything with plants and flowers. It’s very calming and spiritual.

snow squalls

Bizarre day.

It was sunny for the majority of the day with snow squalls. It’s not terribly uncommon for us to have snow in April, not at all. But it was still weird considering the nice weather we’ve had and how everything is in full bloom. The power has gone out three times today as well, probably due to the wind. Although that has been strange too. Work was good. Day off tomorrow. Going out to have fun and not drink too much…

last day of winter

Spring is almost here. Time to clean away the cobwebs and dust and prepare for a new beginning. New beginnings can start anytime, anywhere. But Spring brings about the feeling of clean change. The days get warmer, the sun is stronger and everything starts to grow. This is one of my favorite times of the year. After a winter of hiding away from the cold and ice, now we can worship the sun again and everything just feels more alive.

I hope you realize that if you put your mind to it, change can happen. The Earth does it so effortlessly, and although not always on time (it’s flawed like we are), it always happens. So maybe, on this last day of winter, throw away what isn’t working for you. Whether it be thought processes that leave you stuck and feeling down, or actions that get you nowhere and only make your life difficult. You know what they are. You just have to be honest. The day doesn’t have to be an uncomfortable thing to get through. Fill it up. Take time to enjoy the World around you. It’s yours, afterall.
